Description
EARLY TIFFANY & CO. "ORIENTAL" STERLING SILVER FISH SERVER, large pierced scimitar blade featuring engraved design of a fish surrounded by foliate motifs, having a shaped handled with beaded and scrolled design, engraved "MHY" initials. Impressed "TIFFANY & Co" mark along with "HH&Co PATENT 1855" for Henry Hebbard & Co., the partnership between Henry Hebbard and John Polhamus (New York, active 1851-1859), who both produced goods for early Tiffany & Co. Total weight: 4.200 ozt. Together with a period, probably original, hardcover presentation case having black exterior, white silk lining to lid featuring "TIFFANY & Co / 550 B'WAY / NEW-YORK" in gilt lettering, possibly later blue velvet lining to lower section. Two pieces total. Mid 19th century. Server 12" L; case 12 3/4" x 4" x 1 1/4" OA.
Server in excellent overall condition with minor wear and surface scratches, very minor worn spots to handle; case in very good overall condition with some surface wear and scratches to exterior, spots of light staining to interior lining.
