Victorian to Edwardian Sterling Amethyst & Pearl Bib
Item Details
Description
Victorian to Edwardian Sterling Amethyst & Pearl Bib Necklace, draping strands with freshwater pearls throughout. 17" with plunge clasp. Late 1800's to early 1900's. Three large amethysts that are over 5 tcw each with natural freshwater pearls throughout the chain and drapes. The necklace tests as sterling silver and weight is appx. 22.81 grams. The necklace is 17" wide and has two drapes between the amethysts that hang down 2" at the longest point. The amethysts are set in a tiered curved setting with a bottom accent of a larger freshwater pearl set in the scrolls. The middle piece does have a hook at the bottom on the back beneath the pearl where it likely had a smaller drop - that is not with the necklace. This is sterling silver with oxidation - it can be cleaned and polished but has a great look and is over 100 years old. The pearls do have some finish dulling as vintage pearls get. The amethysts are not glass - they test as amethyst - are they natural or are they created - that is unknown because amethysts are one of the hardest stones to tell the difference in as they tend to be very clear stones when natural and it takes specialty equipment over refractometers, and other and less expensive tools in order to know for sure. This is a beauty. I've seen similar priced over $1,200. This came from a PA auction. See photos. . (Lot. Loc. W.7.2019.1X1). LD 7/25/19).
