Description
"The Plays of Shakespeare", edited by Howard Staunton, published by George Routledge & Co., London and New York, 1858, illustrations of John Gilbert, engraved by the Brothers Dalziel, half bound hardcovers with gilt tooling, marbled boards, edges, and endpapers. Includes a handwritten letter dated 1868 and signed by Staunton, who was also the top chess master of the time.

Dimensions: Each book is 10" x 7 1/4", and approximately 2 1/2" thick.

Provenance: From a local collection.
Condition
All appear to be in good condition; not collated. Rubbed, bumped, some chips including loss to the spine labels, cracked spines, somewhat cocked. Toning, some foxing, some pencil marks. The letter shows expected wear such as minor losses to the edges, creases, some soiling.
