1865-Dated Civil War Era, Engraved Political Cartoon titled, "Jeff's Last Shift.", Published by Currier & Ives, New York, Very Fine.
This wonderful and dramatic Engraved Political Cartoon measures about 17" x 12.25". There is a fine hidden 4" long tear at the right center edge just touches into the far right figure of a soldier, having some archival tape reinforcement on the blank reverse. Part of a series of similar cartoons ridiculing and celebrating the capture of Jefferson Davis. Image shows Davis dressed as a woman with 2 younger women looking out of a tent flap, 2 Union soldiers, one of which is looking at Davis's boots, and a gentleman conversing with the other soldier. Each figure has a text comment balloon above. Faint stamp at upper right of Ex, "Thos. Hastings News Depot. Museum Building Albany". A nice choice dark impression that will display well.
