Item Details
Description
Pair of fine antique Japanese blue and white scalloped. Detailed, well painted, blue and white antique dishes by the Japanese to emulate Chinese Ming porcelains.; A matching pair of small round hand potted and painted blue and white porcelain saucers that are reminiscent of earlier Chinese porcelains. The designs are of a dragon in the sea and a three toed dragon in the clouds circling the flaming pearl of wisdom. The dishes have a scalloped edge and cavetto. The cavettos have a key fret lattice pattern. The mouth edges have an iron red glaze.; The foot rings are refined with a smooth unglazed clay and has a glazed base. The underside edges of the saucers are painted with a leaf and dot pattern. There is a Chenghua reign mark in Chinese characters on the base of both dishes. The glaze is very smooth, soft, and unctuous feeling. The glaze looks shiny and has a bluish tinge. The cobalt is a nice medium blue.; MEASUREMENTS
4 ¼” (10.8 cm) diameter x 7/8” (2.2 cm) tall. Weighs 7.4 oz (215 g); CONDITION
There are no cracks, or breaks. There is a very tiny rim chip on the iron red edge on both dishes. On one you can feel the chip more than see it. The chip on the other saucer is also small but you can see it (please see circled area in photo). There is surface wear on the central designs of both. Both dishes have a couple of small oxide spots on the faces. Both dishes look bright and shiny for their age.; A refined pair of dishes that shows off well. I love the dragons circling the pearl.
