43205: Breckinridge & Lane: Rare and Colorful Grand Nat

Sold on LiveAuctioneers

Lot 43205 Details

Description
Breckinridge & Lane: Rare and Colorful Grand National Banner Jugate Print. Hand-colored small folio lithograph [10" x 14"] published by Currier & Ives in 1860, titled "National Democratic Banner For 1860." Vibrant colors. An essential acquisition for anyone wishing to complete the set of banners spanning the years 1844 to 1876. Some loss to border, not affecting the title, including scattered insect damage. This does not affect the "plate image" in any way. The print has been loosely mounted to a board, thus camouflaging the insect holes in the border. There has also been some restoration to areas of loss in the border. The overall display is very pleasing. Traces of gum arabic, as made, add to the appeal.
