WINSLOW ANDERSON ALFRED UNIVERSITY MID-CENTURY BOWLS, LOT OF FOUR, including two bowls with salt glaze and cobalt decorations. All artist signed with Anderson's full name or "W. Anderson", one bowl with date mark "'41", three undated. Winslow Anderson made at New York State College of Ceramics, Alfred, New York. Circa 1945. 1 3/8" to 4 7/8" H.
Largest bowl with some ground surfaces on foot from manufacturing of glaze flow on foot, otherwise undamaged.
Provenance: Winslow Anderson estate sold to benefit the Huntington Museum of Art.
Catalogue Note: While working at Plymouth Pottery, Winslow Anderson was encouraged to apply for the School of Ceramics at Alfred University where he enrolled in 1940. Anderson worked under Shoji Hamada, and likely Minnie Negoro. Winslow Anderson joined the Army during WWII and finished his work at Alfred from 1946-1947.
