WINSLOW ANDERSON ALFRED UNIVERSITY MID-CENTURY ARTICLES, LOT OF FOUR, including one deep dish with dark brushed fish and cross hatch design on interior under amber glaze, and one plate with bird design on front having sticker on back reading "Designed an[d] / decorated by Winslow / Anderson at Alfred / University, 1941 / A class project / in design for / simplified brush / strokes." One unmarked, otherwise artist signed with Anderson's full name or "W. Anderson", all noting Alfred University or "Alfred NY", three dated "1941". Together with two mid-century plates, possibly made during a course at Alfred, with fluid polychrome brush designs on interior and marked on base "W. Anderson". Six pieces total. Winslow Anderson made at New York State College of Ceramics, Alfred, New York. Circa 1945. 6 3/8" to 16 1/4" D.
Three undamaged, large wide bowl with small area of infill to underside of rim and manufacturing compression crack at center of base that does not go through to interior.
Provenance: Winslow Anderson estate sold to benefit the Huntington Museum of Art.
Catalogue Note: While working at Plymouth Pottery, Winslow Anderson was encouraged to apply for the School of Ceramics at Alfred University where he enrolled in 1940. Anderson worked under Shoji Hamada, and likely Minnie Negoro. Winslow Anderson joined the Army during WWII and finished his work at Alfred from 1946-1947.
