REGINALD JOHN "REX" WHISTLER (BRITISH, 1905-1944) EXHIBITION POSTER, lithograph in colors on paper, titled "The Age of Walnut, 1660-1714", to aid the "ROYAL NORTHERN HOSPITAL", design featuring a portrait of William and Mary above a Rococo-style cartouche, signed and dated "Rex Whistler 1932" in plate lower right. Housed under glass in an old black-painted frame. Circa 1932. 28 5/8" x 18 7/8" sight, 30 1/8" x 20 3/8" OA.
Minor overall even toning and areas of foxing/discoloration, scattered minor edge tears, center right with small losses at edge. Frame with some wear and small losses. Not examined out of frame.
Catalogue Note: Rex John Whistler (1905-1944) was an influential British painter, designer, and illustrator. Successful at a young age, Whistler painted portraits of many of the era's social elite and took on numerous advertising and design commissions. With the outbreak of World War II, the artist joined the army and was killed in Normandy on July 13, 1944.
Minor overall even toning and areas of foxing/discoloration, scattered minor edge tears, center right with small losses at edge. Frame with some wear and small losses. Not examined out of frame.
