Condition
A very nice, rarely used set, with no condition issues noted to the silver other than a few very light surface scuffs. All but two of the glass salt liners are replacements (one paneled rather than round), with some scattered small chips and frits; the mustard liners are original. The wine coasters are electrotype copies of a now (lacking) original along with its marks; these have not been tested for silver content but are presumably sterling (.925) silver and not French first standard (.950) silver. Six of their slots are slightly larger in the case, suggesting that these were originally in two sizes. Each piece is marked with the French first standard "Mercury's head" export mark and the "AA-coq" maker's mark of Andre Aucoc; most additionally with "A. Aucoc" and an Austrian import mark in use 1901-1921. The case exterior is well-worn, with a shrinkage crack running the width of the top and numerous scuffs and scrapes. The interior is in generally good condition, with some light scattered soiling and wear; one slot for the smallest circular platter has been re-lined with matching velour.
