Lot 0178 Details

Description
[Western Exploration/Salt Lake Natural History] 3 Titles (4 Vols).
++ EXPLORATION AND SURVEY OF THE VALLEY OF THE GREAT SALT LAKE OF UTAH, Including A Reconnaissance of a New Route through the Rocky Mountains. 2 Vols: Text and Maps. Wash: Robert Armstrong, 1853. Senate Special Session, March, 1851, Executive [Doc] No. 3. 58 (of 60) plates (lacking Carrington’s Island plate and the folding map that would appear in the text volume). The 58 include the map volume’s 2 folding maps, 3 folding views in text volume, 30 (of 31) nonfolding views, 10 zoology plates, 9 botany, and 4 paleontology plates. Plate list’s unnumbered entry for “Acephala” pertains to images that appear on Paleontology plate II. Plate list gives the wrong location for Cave on Fremont’s Land (actually at p171). Text brown-purple cloth with buffalo at spine base. Foxed, some plates loose/separated, sometimes with marginal crease/tears. Map volume in black cloth with front cover title “Maps/ Stansbury’s Report.” Maps have tear/chipping to folds. Map versos have rubber stamp and notation. Right map dampstained. ++ L. Sitgreaves. REPORT OF AN EXPEDITION DOWN THE ZUNI AND COLORADO RIVERS. Armstrong, 1853. 32d Cong., 2d Sess., Sen. Ex. Doc. No. 59. Field 1414. Bdg worn, spine incomplete. Foxed. 79 (of 80) plates, lacking map. Plate numbering irregularities are otherwise consistent with Graff 3809, Howes S-521, and Sabin 81473. The 79 include 23 illustrated plates (1 folding, mostly Native Americans, nos. 1-13, “15”-“24,” plate 14 not being issued); 6 Mammal plates, 5 Bird plates (1, 3-6, plate 2 not having been issued); 21 reptile plates (numbers 10 and 13 repeated, no plate “12” being issued, ending on “Pl. 20”); 3 fish plates; and 21 botanical plates. ++ William A. Bell. NEW TRACKS IN NORTH AMERICA… Lon: Chapman and Hall, 1870, Second Edition. Somewhat loose, foxed.
++ 8vo. Orig cloth. Sold with all faults. 7.0 Lb.
