A VERY FINE FRENCH CARVED AMETHYST CAMEO BROOCH, MID 19TH CENTURY, PROBABLY PIERRE-FRANCIOS-AUGUSTIN TURQUET. The amethyst gemstone well carved in high relief with the bust of a young beauty in medium pale amethyst tones shading to crystal contained in an oval mount with 8 prongs, each with a rose cut diamond terminal and raised above a reticulated frame of black enameled leaves with pearls mounted at each quarter. Stamped with French Guarantee gold marks and partial maker's mark (rampant lion with P), the amethyst 1.125 inches x .875 inches (30 x 23 mm), weight 27 grams.
