WMF Silver Plated Pewter Racing Car Figural Inkstand Desk Set, Germany, Circa 1905.
Modeled as a Mercedes chain-drive racing car with a driver and a riding mechanic.
The hinged bonnet opens to reveal detachable stamp compartments, the hinged boot with a glass liner inkwell.
Fronted with a cartouche shaped pen tray.
Marked.

Length: 38cm / 14.96in.
Width: 24cm / 9.45in.
Height: 16cm / 6.3in.


This large inkstand by the renowned German metalware company WMF is a beautiful work of Automobilia art, its creation was inspired by a heroic moment in German motor sport when Christian Lautenschlager and his riding mechanic drove their Mercedes to victory at the 1908 French Grand Prix at Dieppe.
