Fine Regency Mahogany Breakfront Secretary
Item Details
Description
Fine Regency Mahogany Breakfront Secretary

first quarter 19th century, the projecting center section with an arched and molded top with a line-inlaid frieze and a pair of astragal-glazed doors below, the base fitted with a central pull-out desk section, flanked by drawers and cabinets below, the side sections of similar form, raised on line-inlaid tapering square legs.
h. 107", w. 106", d. 24"

Provenance: From the Estate of Edward Hull Crump, Jr., Memphis, Tennessee.
Condition
In good polished and restored condition. The surface appears to be an old or original finish that has been subsequently French-polished. It currently exhibits scattered minor mars and blemishes, most notably a water ring on the deck. There is scattered shrinkage, including an area of veneer loss over underlying wood shrinkage at a corner/side of the projecting deck. All locks are present as is a functioning key. There is one missing inserted brass key escutcheon. There is a filled hole at the center of each brass bail backplate indicating this was once fitted with different pulls. The door glass is a combination of old glass and replacements, with one crack or break in a lower corner of one pane. That crack is about 1/4" high by 1-1/2" long. There are losses to the beaded molding just beneath the deck on both sides/returns of the lower case. There is also a loss to the lower molding on one side of the case.
