Exhibited as 'Portrait of a Nobleman' by Van Dyck at Northampton Art Gallery, November 1959-January 1960, Loan no. 186; lent by The Norbert Fischman Gallery Ltd., London (per label affixed to stretcher verso)

Provenance: Norbert Fishman Gallert, Ltd., London by 1961 (according to previous catalogue notes); Sale of Old Master Paintings, Sotheby's, New York, 13/October/1989, lot 116; from whom purchased by the present Private Collection, Toronto.

Note: The present work repeats with minor differences in the upper portion of a double portrait of a father and his son by Van Dyck preserved in the collection of the Louvre Museum, Paris.
