MARBLES. END OF DAY, Paneled Onionskin. 1-5/8". Buffed
Item Details
Description
END OF DAY, Paneled Onionskin. Exceptionally rare marble. You can either call this a Floating Onionskin, or a Solid Core Swirl with Onionskin Outer Layer. Very very rare. Transparent clear base glass. Core is a solid core of white. Then a thick layer of clear glass. Then floating below the surface, four end of day panels. Two are pink splotches and two are blue splotches. Then a clear outer layer. Very unusual as typically the end of day panels would be sitting on top of the core, not floating. Rarely seen. The surface appears to have had the very lightest of handrubs with an abrasive cloth. Viewing under a 10x loupe you can see that it has been lightly buffed, but pocket wear scratches still remain. So the buffing was the lightest of light touches. Probably had some surface haze on it. I'll grade it as Buffed, but you only see that under a loupe. Some very small and tiny subsurface moons and sparkles are visible naked eye. Germany, circa 1860-1920. 1-5/8". Buffed .
