Item Details
Description
LUTZ, Opaque Banded. Rare marble. Semi-opaque white base. Four red bands, two white-edged lutz bands. Surface is pristine. This marble has impeccable provenance. It was originally a reflector in a bank sign in the Midwest. Stanley Block acquired the marbles from the sign around 1980. He made two solitaire sets from the marbles and had some extras that he sold. This is one of the extras. The collector who's estate this came from kept complete records and wrote that she acquired this marble in October 1982 from Stanley Block at the Northeast Marble Fair. Note from cataloguer - I have matched up the marble to the white-based marbles in the two solitaire sets. Germany, circa 1860-1920. 25/32". Mint (9.9). Ex-collection: Sharon Cobb. Purchased from Stanley Block in October 1982 at the Northeast Marble Fair. Acquired by Stanley Block circa 1980 from a Midwest bank sign (location unknown).
