Description
Six (6) American sterling silver tea service hollowware items. 1st-3rd items: Three (3) pieces Reed and Barton Town & Country pattern creamer with gilt wash to interior, sugar bowl with lid, and waste bowl with gilt wash to interior. Maker's marks, Sterling, 755-56, and pattern name stamped to underside of bases. 4th-5th items: 2 pieces Meriden Britannia Company creamer and open sugar bowl, both having gadrooned borders with scrolling shells to each corner, reeded handles, and four ball feet. Maker's marks, Sterling, WC523 stamped to underside of bases. 6th item: Watson Dorian pattern sterling silver coffee pot. Maker's marks, Sterling Silver, B513 1/2, and 1 1/2" Pints stamped to underside of base. Ranging in size from 2 5/8" H x 4" W to 8 1/2" H x 8 1/4" W. Combined weight: 60.25 total troy ounces. Provenance: The collection of Gary Glesser of Loudon, Tennessee, by descent from his grandparents, Captain Hoyt and Rachel Holton of Toledo, Ohio. Hoyt Holton became, at age 17, the youngest captain of a Great Lakes Freighter. In the 1960s, Captain Holton participated in a 26-day Admiral Byrd Society trip replicating the explorer's famous transpolar expedition, during which he met the Pope and Soviet Premier Nikita Kruschev. Many items in the collection were brought back as souvenirs from that journey and other frequent voyages.
