Item Details

Description

Wave Crest plaque displaying a draped young woman. Unmarked, unsigned. Produced by C.F. Monroe Company of Meriden, CT. Late 19th - early 20th century. Opal glass plaque with dark blue finish. Hand painted image of a dancing or floating woman, draped in a sheer garment. Her nude body is visible beneath the drape. She holds a wreath of roses above her head, and roses surround her. Similarities to Art Nouveau and other risque paintings of the late Victorian period. Raised / relief floral decorations around painted area, gilt. Gilt brass frame includes floral motifs. Frame has some patina, minor chipping and . Glass and painting are in good condition, with one area of possible wear to the right of the woman's feet. Minor scuffs / marks.
