Description

Large 19th century oil on canvas painting after the "Sybila Samia" (Samian Sybil) of Guercino (Giovanni Francesco Barbieri, 1591 - 1666) (1651, Private Collection). Painted by Carlo Schwicker (German, 19th century), who made many works after famous Old Master paintings. Signed "Carlo Schwicker Fece" on the reverse and also marked "J.W. Austin", likely a previous owner of the piece. Painting has some paint loss and scratches. Patches on back of canvas. Colors are dark to imitate the aging of the original or a studio copy in the Uffizi Galleries in Florence. 41 1/2" wide by about 49 1/2" tall (framed).Keywords: Baroque, Italian, art, Italy
