Rare Antique German Beer Stein Kegel 1 Liter Pottery etched 1.0L inlaid lid Approx. 8 inch tall, weighs just under 3 pounds empty.Design attributed to O. Hupp. Text:“Wer nie mit einer vollen Maass auf einem Münchner Keller sass,der weiss nicht was vor anderen Völkern der Liebe Gott Bayern gab.”(He who has never sat in a Munich cellar with a full liter of beer,doesn’t know what God gave to Bavarians in preference to other people.) Missing finger holder piece on top of hinge. Created as the coat-of-arms or archival seal of Munich in 1239, the centrally depicted Münchner Kindl (Munich Child) has evolved from a hooded monk standing in front of Munich’s gate to a charming child and symbol of the city beer stein collection From New York City estate Villeroy and Boch Metlach Germany
