Sale of timber seized from miscreant loggers 1873

Lot 0306 Details

Description
Heading: (Washington State Lumber Sale Broadside)
Author:
Title: Auction Sale of Saw Logs! We will sell at Public Auction, to the highest bidder for United States Currency, a lot of Mining Timbers...
Place Published: Olympia, WA
Publisher:
Date Published: June 28, 1873
Description:

Printed broadside, on thin paper. 43.5x31 cm (17x12¼").

Rare broadside advertising the auction of timber "Seized on the part of the Government by B.B. Tuttle, Special Deputy, at Sehome, in Whatcome, Co..." This was timber poached by loggers from both government lands and property awarded to the Northern Pacific Railroad to finance the construction of the track. OCLC locates single examples of four variant broadsides (three at Yale, one at Washington State), but not this one, which seems to be the only one referring to the logs as "Mining Timbers."

Condition
