Item DetailsTitle: Set four small Edo Japanese foliate rim dishes c 1750 Decription: The set of four small ko-Imari blue and white porcelain dishes have interesting foliate-shaped rims and very fine painting. The matching dishes are coated with a nice white glaze that has a slight bluish cast. The glaze feels smooth, thin, cold and is very shiny. The design in the central well is of palms, buildings and a tree. The cobalt is a nice rich dark blue with lighter blue shading. Around the top of the cavetto is a scrolling floral design. Below this there a series of ribs cuts which frames the central well. The rim is edged in iron red glaze, and there are cobalt lines around the foot ring and base. The dishes have very refined smooth unglazed white clay feet. The bases are glazed with Kangxi like designs, most probably of a lotus. MEASUREMENTS 5 ¼” (13.3 cm) diameter x 1: (2.5 cm) tall. Weighs 13.8 oz (390 g) CONDITION There are no cracks, or breaks. Some of the points on the rims have tiny chips. They can hardly be seen. There are wear scratches and abrasions on the central medallions. There are small kiln flaws like black spots, and dimples. Very old well potted small dishes that match. They have an interesting shape that will stand out. Size: 5 ¼” (13.3 cm) diameter x 1: (2.5 cm) tall.
