Description
This is a wonderful estate found etching by Belarus-American artist William Auerbach-Levy (1889-1964). He studied in New York City and Paris, and subsequently taught at the Educational Alliance Art School and the National Academy of Design. In 1928 he was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship. He was elected into the National Academy of Design as an Associate member in 1926, and became a full member in 1958. He is best known for his paintings, etchings and caricatures. This print, titled Timothy Cole, features the noted wood engraving artist (1852-1931). Signed in pencil below the print. The reverse of the backing board bears to stamp for The Print Club of Philadelphia. - The backing board is 17 3/4 x 13 7/8". The print is 13 3/4 x 10 3/4". The plate mark is 11 x 9".
Condition
In overall good condition with some toning and scattered minor foxing. There are pieces of tape at each corner. Some wrinkling to the print paper. There is a small tear to the lower right border. Some white paint splatter on the right border. The backing board exhibits some stains and evidence of water damage.
